There is already some customers over the years calling me, after a slight panic. For some reason, the person who was running their website is gone. They may be hit by a bus, on with the maid, or maybe just look at all the 624 hours without commercial breaks of Star Trek. Regardless of what is happening, I called you can not make changes to their website.
Prevention measures
If you are lucky andread this, you're not in that situation. The main thing to avoid the fact that information in the future. Although I do not know what to do with the information when you call me (or anyone else) with the desperation in your voice, we will know what to do.
There are two things you need to have the information. The domain name (whatever.com) and the actual hosting (the computer of your website is actually sits).
The domain name, there isSeveral pieces of information you need.
1. The Registrar of the address of the website. The registrar is that the domain is registered. For any changes, you need to know who it is registered. There are ways to be determined later, but is a bit 'more difficult. Not much, but a bit '.
2. The login information to the Registrar website. Most likely it's just a username and password.
With a web host, there is not much more.
1. YourFTP address.
2. Your FTP username and password.
3. The website address of your control panel. This will allow you to do things like add, delete and modify email addresses, among other things.
4. The user name and password for your control panel. This would be the same as the FTP user name, but it is not always the case.
That's pretty much it. If you already have this information, you'll be fine, if the webmaster decides to be Amish. You will be able to find another sitedeveloper / designer, and can use this information.
It's Too Late For All That!
So all the things we talked about are fine and good, if the webmaster is still around, but if it's too late? What opportunities are there?
Well, you still get the same information. All you need to get started, however, the telephone number of the committed.
So how do you know? There are many websites where you can search for information on your website, including registration information. Just use a search engine and enter the "whois" word and make sure it is just a word. Go through a couple of sites that come up and see what information is on your site.
They must have some information on what the company name was registered through. For those who are not registered, but that was registered through. This company is also listed as the registrar. They will, probably, awebsite address. If not, just a quick search on your favorite search engine for the company, and a website to come.
Now just contact the company. We hope that you will be able to call to find information, but if you do not hesitate to contact e-mail or contact form. Let them know the situation. Your webmaster has disappeared. However, they simply ask for your login. You can tell them you want information, but importantthing to ask is how can the owner of the domain, without displaying the login information.
The methods to prove who you are very different from the registrar registrar. One of my clients (after losing their old webmaster) appear most often encountered is that they need to fax or other form of identification with the company. They will tell you how to proceed from there.
Once you have this information, you can access your web host to get. This whois record you've seen before in search of your name server or Domain Servers. It will look like a web address, but will be slightly different for them www. Just take the address, replace the part that starts with www, and see if this is their web address.
If so, contact them in the same way you have your own registrar. You should then be able to access and edit your website for download.
If you can not get ahold of your current web hosting company,There is no need to fret. As long as you can access your site registrar, you can ditch the hosting (one way is to simply refuse taxes by credit card) and register for a web host. Once this is done, the web server your new DNS host give. These are the domain name server or server that you have watched before.
Once the DNS name server, you can access your account on the website of your registrar with your login information that you provide andwe change the names of the servers. Each registrar has a different control panel, or I could tell you exactly how to change. When information, contact your registrar login you get, you can also ask them how to incorporate the change in your DNS server.
That's it! I took a couple of weeks with some clients, but others have their site back up and going in a few days. We hope that hard on you.
